I’m keeping this update short and sweet because we’ve been heads-down in the details with our manufacturer.
We are currently in the thick of the iteration process, going back and forth with the factory and our graphic designer to ensure every file and component meets our standards. It involves a lot of checks, but seeing the pieces come together is incredibly exciting.
Metal Component Reveal
One cool output from this process: we just finalized the technical drawings for the metal components! We’ve included images of those at the bottom of this email - we can’t wait to feel the weight of these in hand (note that the Initiative token will be gold and the Fatigue tracker will be black in the final versions).
Designer Diary: 2v2 with Bots
While reviewing proofs, Michael and I have been having a blast testing out some atypical formats. Playing 2v2 where each of us has a bot for a teammate has been a surprising standout! We’ve always designed with teams in mind, but I was surprised that it would be so much fun even when communication with your teammate only goes one way.
Here is the twist that makes it work: at the start of the round, we each draw our ally’s CPU card in secret before selecting our own cards.
This means you know exactly what your chaotic robot friend is about to do, but your opponent doesn’t. It creates some hilarious tactical puzzles. Sometimes the bot decides to go all-out offense with zero regard for safety, and you have to scramble to protect them. Sometimes you see the bot is queuing up an Ultimate, and you have to figure out how to perfectly set them up to land the hit. Occasionally the bot even does exactly what you had hoped they would!
It’s a chaotic, fun way to experience the team mechanics even if you only have two players.
We hope you are all having a great start to the year. Check out the metal specs below!
